PRESS RELEASE
Emission & Combustion Management Technologies, Incorporated (ECMT) and Teledyne Analytical Instruments (TAI) Achieve Real-time Combustion Efficiency Monitoring of Boilers with New 9060E Zirconium Oxide Flue Gas Analyzer.
ECMT / TAI Revolutionary 9060E Delivers Energy Savings, Lower Boiler Maintenance Costs and Less Pollutants with an Outstanding ROI.
Villa Park, IL. –March 7, 2005- ECMT has developed, in conjunction with Teledyne Analytical Instruments (TAI), an inexpensive solution for monitoring in real-time, boiler combustion efficiency, exclusively utilizing the Teledyne 9060E Micro-processor and Zirconium Oxygen probe. The 9060E is installed primarily on commercial boilers with the task of providing boiler operators, for the first time ever, an effective tool which will allow them to continuously view actual, real time, combustion efficiency measurements.
The main objective of the application is to monitor and display, in real time, percent combustion efficiency, which is the payoff for the unit. This is a new tool for boiler operators, designed by boiler operators. ECMT can also provide a multitude of service programs to help your boiler operator keep their boilers running at energy saving levels. The 9060E is easily installed, easily maintained. Upgrades to the unit will only be software and boards
Scott R. Miller, President ECMT states, “integrating the 9060E into existing building monitoring systems is simple and inexpensive. Trending data and boiler operating reports are very helpful and can be produced effortlessly. Data can be used to show deterioration of boiler conditions and also show accountability of unit operation. The 9060E can also provide optional alarming capabilities. Most building monitoring systems can remotely notify an operator of an unscheduled boiler shut down. In addition to the oxygen (O2) readings supplied by the Zirconium probe to the micro-processor, the 9060E can also retrieve and display many optional data points. With fuel costs determined to double in the next few years and the USEPA cracking down on all emission sources you need to utilize this solution. This equipment can pay for itself in a short time, be used for multi- tasking purposes and will put money back to the bottom line.”
Unregulated boilers that are utilized in industrial and commercial facilities are not typically operated at optimized conditions. In fact most operators do not have any type of tool or instrument to determine operating efficiencies. In most cases the operators maintain a few readings during operation and are only looking at maintaining the required output of the unit. The typical optimization process for a boiler within these specifications would only happen once a year, maybe! The boiler operator has no idea if his boiler is tuned to peak efficiency once the boiler tuner leaves the facility.
Markets
The target market is commercial and industrial facilities operating boilers in the range of 100-800 horsepower. The 9060E can be utilized on large utility boilers and units below 100 hp, depending on need of the system. The cost of the 9060E is relatively the same for most boilers. The fuel savings are increased exponentially based on boiler size.
According to Kevin McClorey, Vice President and Chief Engineer, ECMT, “we have made tremendous inroads in many markets especially in municipalities in several large domestic cities. We expect to close several significant municipal clients within the next two months. Additionally, we anticipate several industrial clients to be on board within the next three months. We live in an era of Return on Investment (ROI). The ECMT / TAI 9060E solution pays for itself potentially in a matter of months, not years. Couple the energy savings with energy savings rebate programs offered by various states, the ROI is impressive.”
Benefits
ECMT is providing technology that will allow boiler operators the benefit of a new tool not yet known to the industry. Some benefits of operating the 9060E are as follows:
1) Boilers are baseline tested and evaluated for proper optimization during the installation process. The goal is to achieve the greatest possible combustion efficiency on the boiler and then monitor and maintain that level of efficiency utilizing the 9060E, which begins your savings immediately. A 5% increase in combustion efficiency on a 300 HP boiler over a 6 month period, or 1- heating season can yield a monetary savings of up to $29,000 depending on the price of fuel.
2) Boilers that are properly optimized produce less pollution which helps to improve our environmental air quality.
3) Utilizing our monitoring system allows the operator to have a real time indication of combustion efficiency at the unit and in a remote location within the building monitoring network. This capability alone has the potential of detecting a potential unit malfunction long before real damage or fuel waste can occur.
4) Maintaining the boiler at optimum performance will improve safety of the boiler operation, which can also reduce maintenance costs.
5) Option of multiple alarming functions can notify an operator of a problem or a unit shutdown. Not all facilities have round the clock operators and when a boiler goes down in the middle of a cold night the building occupants are not happy with the building engineer in the morning. In some schools classes have been cancelled for the day.
6) Trending data and emission reports can be produced effortlessly. These reports are a great source of accountability. For the operator these reports can be used to show deterioration of equipment or justify repairs.
